Edu-Tainer Extraordinaire

Melissa Baikie-Rick is an educator, performer, director, and arts advocate with more than 30 years of experience in music, theater, and entertainment. A vocalist, actress, instrumentalist, writer, and comedian, she is passionate about helping students discover their talents, develop confidence, and experience the joy of the performing arts.

As the founder of Light in the Sky Music with Melissa, Melissa provides engaging instruction in music literacy, voice, band instruments, musical theater, performance skills, and arts enrichment. Her teaching philosophy combines strong artistic foundations with encouragement, creativity, and practical skill-building, helping students grow both on stage and in everyday life.

Melissa's musical journey was shaped by exceptional mentors, including her high school music teacher, Ron Simmons, and her voice teacher, Joaquina Calvo-Johnson. She also holds a degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial Organization, which informs her student-centered approach to education and leadership.

Beyond her private teaching studio, Melissa is deeply involved in the local arts community. She has volunteered and served in numerous capacities with schools, churches, community organizations, and the Woodland Opera House, where she has contributed as a performer, music director, educator, and production volunteer. She believes that every child—regardless of where they live—deserves access to meaningful performing arts opportunities and strives to help cultivate a vibrant arts culture throughout Colusa and Yolo Counties.

Melissa and her husband, Aaron, live in rural Colusa County with their son, Logan. The entire family shares a love of theater and community service, frequently participating in productions and educational programs throughout the region.

Today, Melissa's mission is simple: to inspire confidence, creativity, and connection through music and the performing arts while helping build a thriving arts community for future generations.
