VAPA Credit Explained (Credit-Eligible Courses)
Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Credit
VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) courses are recognized by the State of California as an approved area for high school elective credit. Coursework in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, and media arts may be used to meet graduation and elective requirements when aligned with appropriate instructional standards and learning outcomes.
At Light in the Sky Music with Melissa, all credit-bearing coursework is designed to be credit-eligible, standards-informed, and appropriate for documentation on homeschool or charter school transcripts.
California Graduation Framework
Under California Education Code § 51225.3, students must complete one year-long equivalent course in Visual and Performing Arts, World Language, or Career Technical Education (CTE) as part of high school graduation requirements.
Within this framework:
VAPA courses may be used to satisfy graduation requirements
Coursework must demonstrate appropriate instructional rigor and learning outcomes
Schools and educational providers may design multiple pathways to meet student needs
